Care tips & tricks
Useful care tips from MADELEINE
Before washing:
Wash new garments before wearing them for the first time.
If possible, do not remove the care labels. This is the only way you will always know how to treat each item of clothing.
Sort your laundry not only by washing temperature, but also by colour. This prevents discolouration.
Always close Velcro fasteners and zips before washing as they could otherwise damage other items of clothing.
Turn printed and embroidered clothing inside out before washing. Washing inside out generally protects the structure and colour of items.
After washing:
Never leave the laundry damp for long periods.
Pull the laundry into shape before wind drying or after machine drying.
Colours are sensitive to light! Therefore, do not leave the laundry to dry in direct sunlight and preferably inside out.
Never leave functional fibres, wool and silk to dry in the sun.
Heavy woven fabrics such as cashmere and new wool are best dried flat to avoid deformation.
When washing:
Always wash new coloured garments separately.
Wash multi-piece garments (e.g. bikini) together, as colour and texture changes may occur.
Fill the washing machine completely. This protects the laundry and the environment.
Use the right detergent for the fibre. Delicates, coloureds, whites, wool, silk or functional fabrics. Dose your detergent according to the water hardness and the degree of soiling of your laundry.
Avoid fabric softener. These can damage functional fibres and elastane.
First aid for stains:
As a general rule:
The earlier a stain is treated, the easier it is to remove.
Always treat stains before washing.
First test the stain remover on invisible areas of the garment to avoid possible discolouration.
Work from the edge of the stain inwards so that it does not spread further.
Wash the garment immediately after treating the stain.
