Taking Measurements - For the perfect fit

Set aside some time and a tape measure. It’s best to strip down to your underwear. You should place the tape measure along your body without pulling it tight. If possible, get someone to help – it’s easier to take accurate measurements with two. Make a note of the measurements and check them against the size chart to work out which size you need to order.

1. Body length

Standing barefoot, measure from the top of your head to the soles of your feet.

2. Upper body width

Stand up straight and relax, then place the tape measure gently across the fullest part of your chest.

3. Underbust

Place the tape measure underneath the breasts and, keeping it level, pull it taut around the body (but without cutting into the skin).

4. Waist / waistband width

Stand up straight and relax, then measure around the narrowest part of the waist, keeping the tape measure level.

5. Hips / rear

Keeping the tape measure level, measure around the fullest part of the hips / rear.

6. Outside leg length

Measure from your waist to the soles of your feet.

7. Arm length

Measured from shoulder to elbow to wrist.

Hints:

  • The lengths provided with the items are the back length for tops and jackets. This length is measured from the neckline to the bottom edge. For dresses and skirts the front middle part from the waist down is measured.

  • For trousers the side lengths from the waist to the bottom of the garment is measured. MADELEINE short sizes and regular sizes correspond to the widths of the standard sizes, however, are tailored to shorter or longer proportions with regards to their lengths.

  • We recommend using centimetres when taking your measurements.
